Are You Ready for Scholastic Journalism Week?

The Journalism Education Association’s Scholastic Journalism Week is almost here! February 21-27 is your chance to celebrate “The Stories We Tell!” Recognize the hard work of your yearbook staff and raise community consciousness about the importance of teaching journalism in schools with a week of planned activities for students!

Ways to Celebrate

1. Enter the Society of Professional Journalists and Journalism Education Association Essay Contest! In 300-500 words, answer this question:  “Why is it important for journalists to seek the news and report it?” Submissions are due Feb. 24, 2016.

2. Take video and photos of your staff hard at work and post to social media pages. Students deserve to be recognized for the kind of hard work and dedication it takes to be on the yearbook staff!

3. Host a “Meet the Press” event after school one day. Invite school staff, administration and any interested students, and serve refreshments while your students answer questions and get to know everyone in attendance.

Check out the JEA website for lots more ideas on ways to celebrate the week. And in the mean time, download this free Scholastic Journalism Week desktop wallpaper for your computer, iPhone or iPad!
